The Accountant will own and manage the integrity and timely provision of financial information to the AU business and the Group HQ in the UK.

As a key member of the B&H team, this role will drive a full range of activities including month-end, annual budgeting, operational and business analysis, year-end audit, and ad hoc projects defined by the business.


Main Role Accountabilities

Statutory Reporting

  • Oversee audit preparation, visit and successful closure

Management Accounting:

  • Oversee preparations of monthly accounts to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts.
  • Review management report packs.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
  • Develop budgets and financial plans for the company based on research and data reports.
  • Examine all financial reports and data closely to check for discrepancies.
  • Create systems to prevent errors in data collection and calculations.
  • Produce flash sales, cash management and working capital reports.

Taxation and Regulation:

  • Work with tax advisers to review Corporation tax computations.
  • Establish and implement financial reporting systems to comply with government regulations and legislation.

Treasury Management:

  • Keep the cash flow forecast up to date as and when new information presents itself.
  • Produce a cash flow forecast on a weekly basis and present it to local management.
  • Ensure that the operating businesses have appropriate cash and purchasing controls in place.
  • Drive receivables collection process for AU and globally for Qantas/Jetstar.

Controls and Procedures

  • Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for costreduction opportunities.
  • Ensure that all prices are accurately recorded and detailed uniformly to ensure that appropriate margins are being maintained and to ensure sales analysis can be compared like for like.
  • From time to time, reunderline the company's policies to the operating businesses.

Systems

  • Suggest updates and improvements for accounting systems, including payroll and invoicing.
  • Seek to use technology where possible to maximise efficiencies.
  • Work with Operations and Finance teams to drive Improved process automation (Shipamax).
  • Be responsible for Qantas and Jetstar invoicing process and file delivery.

Supplier Management

  • Ensure the maintenance and development of supplier relations and actively participate in the negotiation of rates with key suppliers.

People Management

  • Lead and inspire the staff within the team, acting as a role model, mentor and coach.
  • Set clear objectives, directly linked to the business strategy, and guide the team to achieve defined targets and performance standards.
  • Ensure the team is designed optimally, ensuring sufficient organisational efficiency.
  • Drive employee engagement and team cohesion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Finance or equivalent
  • Good understanding of accounting practices & terminology required
  • Good working knowledge of Finance systems (Cargowise desirable, not essential)
