The Role


Reporting to the Program Lead Northern Environment (Yarra) you'll have the opportunity to make a difference and add to our work environment, within a place where you can learn and perform to your fullest potential.


We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Leading Hand, Natural Resource Management, ideally with 2 years of industry experience.

Within this position you'll be responsible for providing in field leadership and guidance to crews for delivery of natural resources management and project works on Melbourne Water's Waterways and Land assets.

Works will mostly focus on areas in the Yarra River catchment between Yarra Glen and Templestowe as well as Christmas Hills with some works occurring outside of these areas.


This role will be based out of the North East Regional Office in Croydon South, however most days are start and finish on work sites.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities working with and leading crews in NRM, Land Management and / or Bushland maintenance environment.
  • Certificate or Diploma in Environmental disciplines or relevant related work experience.
  • Other qualifications such as Industry White Card (mandatory), Chainsaw Ticket, Plant Machinery competency, Chemcert etc.
  • Ability to take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site.
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public.
  • Ability to work and contribute to a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Ability to swim at a competent level due to any work near, on or in water.
Salary starting at WLD Level 3 $72,778 plus superannuation
