About the Opportunity


We have an exciting temporary opportunity for an experienced program / project manager to join the waste management team at Knox as Program Lead waste strategy and Landfills.

Reporting to the Coordinator Waste management services, you will lead the implementation and monitoring of Councils Strategic Waste Management Plan, assisting in the transformation of Council's waste and recycling services and policy.

The role is also responsible for the effective management of Council's former landfill sites including legislative compliance, contracted monitoring and maintenance works remediation and risk management.


Working in a dynamic and supportive team environment, the role's key responsibilities include the implementation of Council's new Waste Management strategy and coordination and management of contractors and consultants to deliver outcomes that comply with regulatory authorities for Councils former landfill sites.

The role is also required to assist the coordinator in adapting and aligning council's services and procedures to changes in policy and challenges experienced within the waste industry.

The role will also liaise closely with waste management, operations, major projects and other internal teams within Knox to support the community through change and meet Councils commitments in waste and resource recovery.


What you will need to thrive

  • Demonstrated program management skills with proven experience in strategic development and delivery of programs and projects
  • Knowledge and the ability to interpret legislative and compliance guidelines in relation to waste management practices and landfill remediation
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and negotiate with all levels of management, staff and clients of the Council
  • Sound financial and budgetary skills and experience managing contracts and contractors and an ability to rectify any issues that arise
  • High level verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to prepare professional reports
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (or strong industry experience) in waste management, environmental science, sustainability or engineering would be an advantage
