Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Westpac Group Full time
  • We're looking for a Senior Manager Prudential Governance - Credit to join our team as a subject matter expert for prudential governance and interpretation.
  • Permanent fulltime opportunity
  • Sydney based position

How will I help?

In this key second line role, you'll work closely with the Executive Manager, Prudential and Provisioning Governance, and their team to ensure that Westpac maintains a robust control environment. This means you'll be instrumental in ensuring the bank's compliance with APRA prudential regulations related to credit risk management and large exposures. You'll quickly identify and address weaknesses and deficiencies through strong processes and controls.

Your responsibilities will include supporting new projects, remediation efforts, and business-as-usual activities by providing expert advice on credit risk requirements across the credit risk lifecycle. You'll maintain an enterprise register of deficiencies in credit risk management and material interpretations of APRA's standards. Regular updates to committees, forums, and senior management stakeholders on the state of the Bank's credit risk governance and control environment will be part of your role.

You'll manage the governance over compliance with credit risk management and large exposure prudential standards across both retail and non-retail lending. This involves engaging with stakeholders across the business, from origination to write-off, ensuring effective management of obligations and processes through strong controls and remediation efforts. You'll organise and run forums and working groups to identify, monitor, and track the remediation of weaknesses in the credit risk management control environment. In addition, you'll provide insights and advice on the interpretation of credit prudential standards, participate in enterprise and divisional projects, and support annual prudential attestations, prudential assurance reviews, internal audits, and the annual APS 310 Audit.

What's in it for me?

You'll play a significant part of the future of a business that has been around for 200 years. Our purpose is to create better futures together. So, we'll back you in the development of your career, internal career prospects, and flexible working. You'll also keep learning to grow your career, backed by a fantastic team of people with a can-do, supportive structure. Whatever shape your family takes, we offer generous paid and unpaid parental leave for your nominated primary and support carers. This includes leave to organise adoptions, surrogacy, and foster care arrangements. And we continue to pay your super contributions while you take all the time you need to get your new family settled

What do I need?

To succeed in this role, you'll have a background in Credit Policy and have a solid working knowledge of credit risk management systems and processes. You should be well-versed in APRA's credit and credit capital frameworks and the end-to-end credit process, including origination, credit ratings, credit provisioning, and write-offs.

You'll be able to plan and track the execution of small projects from start to finish, identify and remediate issues and actions in risk management, Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are a must, as you'll be working with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and running working group meetings. A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to challenge the status quo to develop and implement better ways of working are also essential.

What is it like to work there?

We aim to provide one big, supportive team to help us achieve our purpose of creating better futures together. As well as competitive remuneration and a great culture, joining the Westpac family means you will get some of the best banking, wealth and insurance benefits in the market.

We back our employees by helping them work towards industry-recognised qualifications, using online learning, training modules and career planning tools for you to grow with us. We will even pay you to do volunteer or community work.

As an equal opportunity employer, we are proud to have created a culture and work environment that values diversity and flexibility – and champions inclusion.
