CSIRO is the national science agency that undertakes research to make life better for Australia and Australians.

Missions are a strategy by which CSIRO is seeking to help solve significant national challenges by partnering and using the breadth of CSIRO's capabilities to concentrate on fewer bigger problems.

The
AquaWatch Australia Mission's goal is to use state-of-the-art space technologies, in-situ sensing and simulation modelling to improve management of inland and coastal water quality across Australia, and provide early warning of harmful events.

The Mission was launched in March 2023.

The Mission has developed an AquaWatch Australia Science and Technology Roadmap, and is now moving to the implementation phase of this Roadmap.

External partnerships with entities including federal and state governments, universities and research organisations, satellite data providers, Traditional Owners, utilities providers, industry, landowners and managers, and international NGOs (including development organisations and philanthropic organisations) are critical to the successful implementation of CSIRO Missions such as AquaWatch.

Water quality tends to be considered a local community problem, and AquaWatch aims to provide a global capability to address these issues.

Therefore, AquaWatch is establishing a number of Australian and international pilot sites to better understand local water quality challenges and as testbeds for the data integration and information delivery system.

We are seeking a
Partnerships Manager to lead engagement with partners, investors, collaborators and end users of AquaWatch services and research to ensure the implementation needs of the Mission are met.

Your duties will include:

  • In collaboration with the AquaWatch Mission Lead and Deputy Lead, the AquaWatch Business Development Manager and Work Package leads, leading the strategic planning and implementation for new domestic and international partnerships for the AquaWatch Mission.
  • Identifying, qualifying, initiating, delivering, and maintaining domestic and international partnerships which align with the strategic goals and implementation plan of the AquaWatch Mission.
  • Establishing rapport with, influencing and negotiating collaborations with domestic and international stakeholders, including multilateral forums such as the Group on Earth Observation and UN Water, to establish and grow new partnerships in AquaWatch.
  • Supporting Work Package leads in seeking new partnerships and external capabilities to deliver their work plans.
  • Leading AquaWatch negotiations and engagement activities around Australian and international pilot sites, and associated establishment and operation of the AquaWatch community of practice.
  • Providing highlevel representation on behalf of AquaWatch on issues and interactions with key domestic and international stakeholders and external parties, to collaboratively deliver the AquaWatch Mission Plan objectives for partnership and investment.
  • Representing the AquaWatch Mission at various external meetings, and establishing working groups to develop strong cooperative relationships with implementation partners and stakeholders.
  • Representing AquaWatch, as needed, at various internal meetings, and collaborating with relevant CSIRO Business Units, BD teams and CSIRO offshore teams to collaboratively establish new partnerships that will help deliver the AquaWatch Mission technical roadmap.
  • Informing, guiding and reviewing correspondence, presentations and reports that deal with complex or sensitive stakeholder matters, ensuring emerging and unforeseen issues requiring intervention are identified and addressed in collaboration with the Mission Lead.
  • Contributing to key internal reporting processes for AquaWatch.
  • Ensuring compliance with CSIRO processes and governance requirements as it relates to domestic and international stakeholder engagement and providing timely advice in support of the Mission Lead.
  • Supporting effective communication between internal AquaWatch leadership team and external stakeholders.
