KSC 1. A demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a school setting and develop and implement school-based programs and interventions that support the success of young people.

KSC 2. A demonstrated capacity to provide individualised support for vulnerable young people in the school setting and the ability to work with staff and external agencies in this.

KSC 3. The ability to work with teachers and support their work with students through the provision of professional development and advice.

KSC 4. A knowledge, capacity and experience in working with and engaging the local community in the implementation of student wellbeing programs that support positive outcomes for at risk students.

KSC 5. The capacity to lead and work with a diverse team of wellbeing support staff at the College including an understanding of DE&T student wellbeing guidelines.

Hours of Attendance:
Monday to Friday - 8:30am - 4:36pm

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction mínimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.

Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.


Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.


An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.


Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Working with the Assistant Principal to oversee the College Wellbeing Team and reengagement programs including High Needs Transition, GROW, Doctors in Secondary Schools and Dogs Connect.
  • Working with the Connect Leader, support the emotional and social developmental health and wellbeing needs of students within the reengagement program including their transition into and out of the program.
  • Provide advice to the Principal and School Improvement Team regarding key wellbeing and engagement priorities in the AIP and SSP.
  • Provide health and wellbeing professional development to staff as required or requested in consultation with the principal.
  • Contribute to the wider school community, educational and system needs of young people across Bendigo through networking and participating in Communities of Practice.
  • Working with the Disability Inclusion Coordinator, provide advice and support to school leaders and staff to support students with additional health and wellbeing needs.
  • Provide direct support to students and families that addresses social and emotional needs, critical incident response, advocacy and support for students and families and liaison with external community services providers.
  • Contribute to the delivery of student support services within a multidisciplinary team across the school.
  • Provide professional advice and support to the Principal, school staff and the school community that will enhance the learning, development and wellbeing of students, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
  • Ensure professional advice is directed toward addressing school and DET student engagement and wellbeing priorities.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic interventions that support capacity building related to student learning, engagement and wellbeing consistent with the priorities of the school and the DE&T.
  • Support the establishment and strengthen links and referral pathways between relevant departments, services, community organisations and schools to optimise support for vulnerable children, young people and their families.
  • Provide collaborative support to a multidisciplinary professional team that provides wellbeing support to students.
  • Participate in staff support, supervision, learning and development and knowledge sharing activities as a professional member of a multidisciplinary team.
