The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre was established at UNSW by the Commonwealth Government in 1986 to extend the knowledge base required for effective treatment of individuals with alcohol and other drug-related problems and to enhance the overall research capacity in the drug and alcohol field.

NDARC is highly regarded for its contribution to drug and alcohol research.

Why this role matters
The Research Assistant will conduct and contribute to a range of global epidemiological reviews including:

  • the prevalence of injecting drug use
- socio-demographic characteristics and risk profiles of people who inject drugs
- the prevalence of blood borne viruses (HIV, HCV and HBV) among people who inject drugs, and
- coverage of treatment and prevention services targeting HIV, hepatitis C, and overdose among people who inject drugs.

Who you are:

  • Degree in the behavioural sciences, social sciences, epidemiology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in data management and fundamental statistical analyses, including use of SPSS, Stata, SAS or a similar data analysis package.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team and liaising with other agencies and professionals.
  • Excellent communications skills including the ability to contribute to research outputs and reports for diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to integrity and sensitivity in interacting with marginalised or atrisk populations and about sensitive issues, including in complying with ethical, legal, and policy requirements.
