About the role:


As a successful applicant, you will be an integral team member within the Financial Services Department, Financial Accounting and Compliance Branch - Corporate Reporting Unit.

The branch has primary responsibility for producing Victoria Police's Financial Statements and ensuring the quality, accuracy and completeness of the financial information disclosed therein.

It also manages the monthly reporting, asset management, trust accounting and Treasury.

The branch also has carriage of financial corporate governance on the Victorian State government's financial management Standing Directions, taxation and insurance.

The Corporate Reporting Manager will work primarily in the Corporate Reporting unit and will be responsible for providing high-quality accounting and financial services.

This position plays a key role in the monthly financial reporting for Victoria Police and the production of the statutory reports including the annual financial statements and the submission of other data for the preparation of general government materials.

Engagement with external stakeholders includes but is not limited to the Department of Justice and Community Safety and the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).

Engagement with internal stakeholders includes but is not limited to working across the Financial Services Department branches, Human Resource Command, Legal Services, Infrastructure, Procurement and Transport Branches.

This role reports directly to the Branch Manager, Financial Accounting and Compliance

Your duties will include:

  • Effective supervision and development of a team of six staff.
  • Leading the development of a continuous improvement mindset across the team
  • Managing the monthend and yearend close processes
  • Reviewing and implementing strong internal controls, systems and processes to ensure the integrity of the financial information
  • Driving the development and implementation of financial strategies to support the efficient operation of the organisation
  • Managing the monthly variance analysis commentary for the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF)
  • Leading and providing financial management services to various Departments and Commands within Victoria Police
  • Delivery of the annual financial statements for Victoria Police
  • Management of treasury and cash management functions
  • Ensuring all audit and statutory reporting requirements are met in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and within specified time frames
  • Coordination and management of the Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) audits
  • Ensuring active, constructive engagement with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducting research and providing input on accounting/financial reporting standards position papers.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification, ideally in accounting or a finance related related discipline
  • Professional membership of Chartered Accountants Australian & New Zealand, CPA Australia or overseas equivalent
  • Significant expertise in the delivery of quality business and financial outcomes with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated success in effectively managing and developing a professional finance team
  • Demonstrated success in building effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
