Funded by Government since 1984, the Marine National Facility (MNF) provides a keystone element of the nation's research infrastructure by providing the only blue-water research capability available for work in Australia's vast marine estate.

Carrying up to 40 scientist and technicians, the 94m Research Vessel (RV), Investigator, undertakes multidisciplinary research in the oceans and seas around Australia.


Leading a dynamic and diversely skilled team, as the Team Leader - Risk Safety and Compliance (RS&C), you will link all aspects of our HSE coordination, compliance assurance framework and risk management practices across our internal and external stakeholders.

Working collaboratively with vessel users, Program staff, ship management contractor, and the Engineering and Technology Program, you will support the RS&C team to develop and implement a robust safety, risk and compliance framework.

The framework will be supported by strong and proactive engagement and communications with all stakeholders to deliver successful business outcomes.


The role may involve travel and there may be opportunity to go to sea as part of providing support more broadly to the MNF.


In this role you will:

  • Establish a fit for purpose framework that demonstrates appropriate management of risk.
  • Develop strong organisational and stakeholder networks.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate risk, safety and compliance processes.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders within the organisation to establish and deliver compliance activities.
  • Support the delivery of audits on key areas of our operations.
  • Coordinate the provision of specialist advice on health, wellbeing and safety issues that arise during the planning and execution of research voyages.
  • Liaise with and coordinate the operational execution of the marine medical services provider contract.
  • Coordinate MNF's preparedness for managing health related situations that might impact our operations.
  • Effectively communicate complex information to various audiences.
  • Lead the management of the compliance assurance framework for the MNF and its contractors.

Salary:
AU$105k - AU$114k per annum, plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Experience in health, safety, risk management and/or compliance assurance roles.
  • Experience leading a team of professionals, preferably in a marine or facility environment, and pertaining to the delivery of health, safety, risk, compliance management.
  • Experience and knowledge of the conduct of marine research and associated vessel operations, and the intersection with the risk, safety and compliance space.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience providing complex highlevel support and advice to senior management.
  • The ability to work well in a professional team environment, to coordinate provision of the support necessary to delivery research voyage operations.
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills.
