The opportunity
DoT is searching for an outcome-oriented leader with a strong interest in work health and safety (WHS) and employee well-being. In this role, you will lead in developing department-wide safety and well-being strategies, plans, and initiatives. Additionally, you will guide a specialized team in identifying, assessing, and investigating incidents and hazards, managing worker compensation claims and injuries using modern WHS methodologies.
This role offers a chance to deeply understand various business areas, shaping decisions, providing strategic advice, and coaching senior leaders to enhance DoT's safety culture and drive the Strategic Intent forward.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership and people management skills, along with a profound understanding of WHS legislation and extensive experience in large organizations to solve complex issues effectively.

About you
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- In-depth understanding of WHS legislation, standards, and processes, applied practically to lead safety programs and policies ensuring compliance and a strong safety culture.
- Experience in leading and mentoring teams on WHS incident identification, assessment, and investigation in complex organizations.
- Expertise in developing WHS management systems and understanding the link between employee well-being, injury management, and compliance.
- Strong analytical skills to design strategic programs meeting business requirements.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders internally and externally.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams effectively.
