Senior Director, Engagement & Monitoring

We have an exciting executive opportunity for a First Nations leader to play a critical role in achieving health equity, eliminating institutional racism and attaining life expectancy parity for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland by 2031.

Please note: Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

The role

The Chief First Nations Health Officer is seeking applicants from highly motivated, experienced and suitable First Nations leaders who will think strategically, work collaboratively with key stakeholders and play a key proactive role in leading the implementation of the First Nations First Strategy 2032, to fill the role of Senior Director, Engagement and Monitoring Branch.

Reporting to the Chief First Nations Health Officer you will provide strategic leadership in brokering and implementing local solutions, partnering with key community and health system stakeholders, to deliver First Nations Health Equity.

The successful person

This role is identified as requiring the substantive employee to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991
You will have:

  • Demonstrated senior management and organisational experience with a proven record of achievement in a large, complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and in a culturally appropriate manner with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples and knowledge of both cultures and societies from a historical and contemporary perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships across the health system, all levels of government and with a diverse range of external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, including proven expertise in advocating for First Nations health reforms that ensure equitable access to healthcare.
  • Extensive understanding of First Nations health issues at all levels.

About First Nations Health Office

The First Nations Health Office co-designs, leads and advocates to ensure Queensland Health is a culturally safe, equitable and responsive health system that meets the needs identified by First Nations Queenslanders.

In partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders from across the public health system and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health sector, the First Nations Health Office is driving a suite of legislative, policy and service delivery reforms across the health system to achieve equity, eliminate institutional racism and attain life expectancy parity by 2031.
