The Company...

The company was founded in 1994 and is one of Australia's leading suppliers of all things in, on, and around concrete. They also provide wholesale distribution of industrial concrete supplies to trade stores throughout Australia. With the recent growth in their business, they are seeking a full-time Business Development Manager to join the Internal Sales division. Applications from individuals based in Hervey Bay & Gladstone will also be considered.

The Position...

The position requires a driven individual to develop new business and collaborate with a diverse range of clients. You will be responsible for maintaining some existing key accounts but there will be a strong focus on new business and growing your customer base. This position will require you to achieve sales targets and deliver customer satisfaction. This will involve maintaining existing customer relationships, as well as, seeking out and building new business opportunities. Whilst you'll be involved in seeking out new business for existing applications of the company's product & service offering, you'll also be tasked with identifying new market segments and building new clientele in these segments. This role will be supported by an Internal Sales Assistant that will provide the BDM with administrative, market research support, and any other duties as required.

Main responsibilities/tasks will include:

  • Business development activities that bring in sales through face-to-face client visits & secondly through outgoing phone calls.
  • This role requires travel. Each month will require travel from Gladstone to Brisbane. In addition, 4 days of each week will be spent on the road, visiting new & existing clients.
  • This role requires a large volume of external sales in order to retain and grow active customer list. 25+ targeted customer visits will be expected each week.
  • You will be required to develop long term relationships with key business executives and stakeholders.
  • Liaising with engineers, certifiers, and corporate officials to get home brand products accepted and approved.
  • Identifying new opportunities in the marketplace, with a particular focus on securing big supply contracts.
  • Daily communication with the team, communicating wins, losses, motivations & market intelligence.
  • Encourage high-performance sales and service culture through role modelling and collaboration with the wider internal sales team.

The Ideal Candidate...

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Experience in building relationships with potential clients via cold calls, networking & other avenues
  • Past sales experience, particularly in reinforcing steel and/or construction industry (highly desirable)
  • Confident negotiation skills
  • Strong service &/or product sales skills, from prospecting to closing out sales skills
  • Proven experience at developing and nurturing long-term client relationships
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Be personable and have well-developed communication skills (both oral & written)
  • Highly driven and self-motivated
  • Confident in the use of MS Office software and CRM applications
  • Have a positive can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, and enjoy collaborating with professional peers
