About the role:

A rewarding and exciting opportunity to join Box Hill Institute (BHI) on a casual basis as our Information Services Librarian


The Information Services Librarian provides specialist library support to staff and students to ensure that their needs for information literacy training, reference and research support, and relevant library collections are met.

This support is provided both specifically to assigned liaison areas and more generally via the service desks in our campus libraries.

The Information Services Librarian is a member of the library team in the Student Experience division.

This position is responsible for working professionally with employees at all levels across the Box Hill Institute and liaising with relevant stakeholders, including Higher Education Academic Course Managers, lecturers and teachers, students at all levels, and suppliers.


Box Hill Institute operates four campus libraries plus online library services, providing specialist training and support, and electronic and hardcopy library resources, to meet the information needs of our vocational and higher education students and staff.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to supporting educational quality and organisational innovation.

As a confident communicator, you will build relationships with teaching staff and students as well as promote the use of our Library services and available resources.


About You:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a library/educational environment
  • Relevant qualification that enables eligibility for associate membership of ALIA
  • Web 2.0 skills, computer qualifications, or demonstrable computer skills are preferred
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment or preparedness to attain the qualification during the course of employment
  • High level customer service skills; strong written and verbal communication and confidence to liaise with students and staff
  • Experience in developing and conducting small group training
  • Demonstrated experience in providing reference and information services and technical skills appropriate to the development of web based technology for Information Literacy training
