Laboratory Technician

  • Full time fixed term position for 6 months
  • Based in Hobart

The Opportunity


The appointee will provide professional technical support for the practical component of courses taught by the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

They also provide a broad level of support within the team environment, including technical assistance across the teaching, research and administrative sections of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Setup, monitor and conduct experiments for practical teaching, which may involve instructing students on the correct and safe methods of operating specialised equipment and instruments as required.
  • Organise the physical requirements for practical classes including ensuring the availability of chemicals, glassware and other materials, and to ensure that all instruments and equipment which may be required are available and operational.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the laboratories at an appropriate standard of cleanliness and safety and to manage organisation of these laboratories in conjunction with others, including specific attention to workplace health and safety issues.
  • Under general direction assist with the supervision, development and testing of laboratory experiments and demonstrations., including independent problemsolving for existing practical exercises.
  • Responsible for Workplace Health and Safety duties in the laboratories regarding preparation and running of practical classes.

Your Application

  • Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant workrelated experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Previous laboratory experience in an educational environment, including analytical instrumental work and experience with cell culture techniques and procedures.
  • A good understanding of WHS principles and how they are applicable in the laboratory situation, and experience in development of safe operating procedures and risk assessments.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and a capacity to act independently and use initiative.
  • Proven skills in handling and management of laboratory equipment and hazardous substances.

Remuneration


Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $86,321 comprising base salary within the range of $69,646 to $73,779 plus 17% superannuation.
