About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer, Aged Care, Community and Mental Health at Monash Health plays a pivotal role in the overall leadership and strategic direction of the health service's extensive Aged Care, Community and Mental Health operations.

This executive position is responsible for overseeing a vast operational portfolio with a budget of $829 Million and 5,709 employees.

The COO is tasked with ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient healthcare services across multiple disciplines including Public Health, Infectious Diseases and Community, Aged & Rehabilitation, Residential Care, Mental Health, Health Information and Language Services, Aboriginal Health and Engagement, and Kingston Centre.

In this role, the COO will lead the strategic and operational planning efforts, closely aligning them with Monash Health's broader goals and the evolving needs of the community.

This includes spearheading innovative care models and technologies to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.

The COO will also be responsible for maintaining and improving operational efficiencies, managing significant budgets, and leading change initiatives that respond effectively to the dynamic healthcare landscape.

The COO's leadership is crucial in fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and respect across the Aged Care, Community and Mental Health portfolio.

This role involves not only managing current healthcare services but also actively planning and implementing expansions and improvements to meet future healthcare demands.

The COO will work collaboratively with other executive team members to uphold Monash Health's commitment to quality, impact, and the best patient experience.

This includes integrating teaching, research, and clinical practice to continuously learn and improve.

By ensuring that all hospital activities align with Monash Health's vision and strategic objectives, the COO, Aged Care, Community and Mental Health will guide the organisation through ongoing and upcoming challenges, making strategic decisions that bolster Monash Health's position as a leader in healthcare provision not only in Victoria but nationally.

About You

The ideal candidate for the Chief Operating Officer, Aged Care, Community and Mental Health role at Monash Health is an innovative leader with a demonstrated track record of success in largescale complex Aged Care, Community and Mental Health healthcare management.


Core requirements of the position include:
Extensive experience in managing large, multifaceted healthcare operations, preferably within the public sector.
Demonstrated ability to strategically oversee a significant budget and align organisational practices with broader health system goals.

Adept at leading clinical and non-clinical teams, with a focus on cultivating a culture of excellence, ethical practice, and compassionate care.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective stakeholder engagement and maintaining strong relationships with government bodies, educational institutions, and healthcare organisations.

Proven capability in change management and implementing innovative solutions that enhance service delivery and patient care.
Robust financial management skills, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial targets.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in health management, business administration, or a related field.
