About the opportunity:

We seek an experienced safety leader with the vision, strategy, drive and influencing skills to improve our workplace.

As the Manager, Workplace Health and Safety, you will create a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace for our staff and students.


You will have the mandate to transform and improve the health and safety of our workplaces with the support of the University Executive.

As an experienced leader, you will understand the effectiveness of consulting and collaborating with other leaders and team members to get the best possible outcomes.


Your core responsibilities will include the following:

  • Influence and lead a safety culture transformation across the University;
  • Report to and collaborate with key stakeholders, including the HR Leaders, University Executive, to design and implement a vision for workplace safety that aligns with the Universitys strategy and valuesled mission;
  • Drive the continuous improvement of safety standards and practices by developing and implementing innovative frameworks, strategies and initiatives.;
  • Provide specialist advice to managers on health and safety, risk identification, hazard reduction, and injury management;
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements in all workplace health and safety areas;
  • Liaise with and facilitate interactions between the University and relevant statutory bodies on health and safety issues;
  • As an integral member of the HR Services leadership team, contribute to the development and implementation of the Universitys overall people strategy while leading the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and systems;
  • Lead and manage a small team of safety professionals and provide guidance and coaching to foster their professional development while ensuring a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Salary and benefits:

This is a full-time, continuing position based at one of our regional campuses; Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast or Lismore. Travel to each of these locations is a requirement of the position.
