How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne


The City Safety, Security and Amenity Branch works with partners and stakeholders to enable and enhance a vibrant, safe and accessible environment for people living, working and visiting the City of Melbourne.

The Branch provides support services to people experiencing homelessness and manages security and emergency responses for the municipality.

They also address non-compliance of relevant legislation and oversee the permitted use of council assets and shared spaces to enable the vibrant and lively culture the City is known for.

The Animal Management team provides high-level customer service and manages the registration of pets within the municipality.

They educate and enforce compliance with legislation, collects lost, stray and abandoned animals and provide animal welfare services within the City of Melbourne.


The Animal Management Officer will also work closely with the Senior Animal Management, and along with other branches in the organisation; including legal services to ensure the effective delivery of Council objectives.

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Proven ability to prepare reports to a high standard of accuracy and detail including briefs of evidence, legal documentation and correspondence
  • Desirable
  • Previous customer service and/or internal/ external stakeholder experience
  • Current Valid Australian Drivers Licence (Full or Probationary Licence)
  • Certificate IV Local Government (Statutory Enforcement) or (Animal Regulation and control) or equivalent industry experience
  • Desirable
  • Initiative and innovation to establish own work priorities within operational constraints
  • Sound computer skills including the ability to use customer databases, Microsoft Office range including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and other technologies used in compliance and enforcement activities
