About the Opportunities

The two positions advertised will form part of a dynamic team responsible for managing the development and coordination of mining and petroleum policy initiatives across the department. The positions sit within the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group the Geological Survey and Resource Strategy Division (GSRSD), which is responsible for the facilitation of investment through the provision of geoscience data and products and for setting strategic resource policy. The division also manages the Abandoned Mines Team and the Exploration Incentive Scheme including the co-funded drilling program.

The following two opportunities are available for filling through this process.

Policy Officer (MP

This position contributes to the development and coordination of mining and petroleum policy initiatives across the Department and Government.

You will be responsible for preparing ministerial correspondence, reports, policy papers, briefing notes and other departmental correspondence and facilitating departmental and ministerial participation in Commonwealth – State forums; carrying out economic and financial research and analysis of the mineral and petroleum industry; conducting research and analysis of current and emerging issues relevant to the mining and petroleum industry and providing strategic advice to management on these policy issues.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills and experience in economic and statistical research and analysis of strategic policy issues, preferably in relation to the mineral and petroleum industry and experience in communicating policy initiatives to a wide range of stakeholders.

Senior Policy Officer (MPR02088)

This position manages the development and coordination of mining and petroleum policy initiatives across the Department and Government.

You will be responsible for preparing ministerial correspondence, reports, policy papers, briefing notes and other departmental correspondence and facilitating departmental and ministerial participation in Commonwealth –State forums; carrying out economic and financial research and analysis of the mineral and petroleum industry; completing research and analysis of current and emerging issues relevant to the mining and petroleum industry and providing advice to management on these policy issues.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in research and analysis of policy issues and coordination of policy initiatives within and across government agencies and considerable knowledge of Commonwealth and State Government and industry roles in resources policy formulation.

Role specific requirements:

  1. Demonstrated skills and experience in economic and statistical research and analysis of strategic policy issues preferably in relation to the mineral and petroleum industry.

  3. Demonstrated experience in communicating policy initiatives to a wide range of stakeholders.

Senior Policy Officer - Level 6 (MPR02088)

Role specific requirements:

  1. Considerable demonstrated experience in research and analysis of policy issues and coordination of policy initiatives within and across government agencies, preferably in the minerals and petroleum industry.
  2. Demonstrated written communication skills including experience in writing briefing notes, policy and executive level reports.
  3. Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth and State Government and industry roles in resources policy formulation would be advantageous.
