City of Moonee Valley, Australia Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School Full time

Management - Schools (Education & Training)

After twenty years of service to the School, Vice Principal, Nina Bilewicz has announced her retirement, and we are seeking to appoint a new Deputy Principal to commence in January 2025.

Applications are invited for this exciting senior leadership position at our School. We seek candidates who are passionate about education, committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment, and eager to contribute to the ongoing success and innovation of our respectful and diverse school community.

The School

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) is a community engaged and empowered in the shared pursuit of excellence in learning for an enriching present and an exceptional future. We pride ourselves on our rich history, our commitment to holistic education, and our forward-thinking approach that prepares our students not only for academic success but also for meaningful, purposeful lives. Our commitment to excellence in education is also reflected in our exceptional facilities and resources and our engaged and empowered staff.

PEGS has over 2,900 students from K-12 at campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon and Keilor East. We offer a diamond education, with a co-educational Kindergarten programme, single-sex education at the Junior Schools and Middle Schools from Years 7 to 10 and co-education at the Larkin Centre (Years 11 to 12). We have an Outdoor Education programme at Eildon and a high quality and extensive co-curricular programme.

Our school is renowned for outstanding academic achievement and for providing a diverse range of experiences to promote engagement. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, inclusive, supportive and challenging environment where students and staff can thrive and reach their full potential.

The Role

In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the educational journey of our students, inspire our exceptional staff, and collaborate closely with a team driven by a shared vision of excellence. We are looking for a leader who is not only an outstanding and experienced educator but also a compassionate mentor, an innovative thinker, and a dedicated advocate for student well-being.

As Deputy Principal you will play a critical role in supporting the Principal in ensuring the smooth operation and strategic development of the school. This educational leadership position involves the effective leadership of teaching and learning, while overseeing the school's twin pillars of Culture of Thinking and Care and Wellbeing to foster a culture of high expectations and achievement while encouraging professional growth and instructional excellence across the school.

Developing and implementing programmes to support student well-being, including behavioural management and co-curricular activities, will also be a key aspect of your role.

Strengthening partnerships with parents, community members, and stakeholders to enhance the educational experience and promote the school's vision and values is essential. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a senior leadership role with relevant qualifications. Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills are a must to help shape and lead the implementation of the school's strategic objectives.

Joining our school means becoming part of a community that values integrity, creativity, and resilience. It means contributing to an environment where every member feels valued and supported, and where lifelong learning is celebrated. We are excited to welcome a Deputy Principal who will bring their unique perspective, enthusiasm, and expertise to the role, helping us to continue to set new standards in education.

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar is a Uniting Church School for boys and girls with campuses located in Essendon, Moonee Ponds and Keilor East. The school is the product of a happy amalgamation of the two schools, Penleigh Presbyterian Ladies' College and Essendon Grammar School which was completed in 1977. PEGS has since developed in both size and reputation for the provision of a strong and successful academic programme.

Today Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School offers a unique blend of single sex and coeducational experiences to over 2000 students. After Kindergarten our students attend either the girls' campus in Moonee Ponds, which caters for girls from Prep - Year 6 or the Essendon Campus for boys in Prep - Year 6 and the Keilor East campus which has separate sections for boys and girls in Years

The senior campus, the Infinity Centre, also located on the the Keilor East campus, brings boys and girls together for all classes for the first time in their schooling at PEGS. Students at PEGS are thus able to enjoy the benefits that a single sex education can provide - particularly during the years of early adolescence - as well as those of a mixed environment in which respectful relationships can be fostered amongst young men and women.
