SAHMRI Is located on the lands of Kaurna people who are the traditional custodians of Adelaide and the greater Adelaide region.

SAHMRI works with traditional custodians across South Australia, Australia and globally.

This role is required to collaborate with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on the lands of all traditional custodians across South Australia and potentially globally.

Aboriginal Communities and Families Health Research Alliance (ACRA), focuses on research and its translation with Aboriginal communities.

The ACRA team work alongside SAHMRI Women and Kids theme and are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of women, children and families, particularly those most at risk of poor health outcomes.


Specifically, this position will provide high level research support to disseminate findings of completed research projects, assist in grant writing, editing and submissions.

Under the direction of the ACRA Senior Research lead, the Research Officer / Research Fellow will support rigorous research to a high standard.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Communicate research findings and assist with the development and implementation of knowledge translation activities, within high impact peer reviewed journals, at conferences and within committees and other bodies relevant to the role.
  • Assist in the production of highquality research documentation, abstracts, and manuscripts for publication.
  • Prepare dissemination of research outputs and outcomes.
  • Promote integrity and support a culture of excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Participate in ACRA special projects to continuously improve processes, tools, systems, and organisation.
About You

  • An honours, or postgraduate degree in Psychology, Public Health, Health Sciences, Epidemiology, or a related discipline as well as demonstrated experience contributing to research projects. For a Research Fellow position, a PhD is required.
  • A strong academic writing ability.
  • Ability to assist in the production of highquality research documentation, abstracts, and manuscripts for publications.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research is desirable.
  • Experience in data analysis is desirable.
  • Experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health / Health research, specifically maternal and child health is desirable.
  • Reliable, flexible, and positive work attitude.
  • Support SAHMRI Commitment to reconciliation and acknowledge the importance of working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Special Requirements

  • Some out of hours' work may be required.
  • DCSI Employment Screening Working With Children Check is required.
  • Primarily located at SAHMRI Women and Kids.
  • All employees are required to be immunised in accordance with the requirements of the Hospital in which they are working or be willing to be vaccinated at the cost of the Institute.
