The Project:


John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella will soon commence design and construction work for the Sydney Metro West - Eastern Tunnelling Package.


With a contract worth $1.63 billion, the Eastern Tunnelling Package includes construction of 3.5-kilometre tunnels under Sydney Harbour between The Bays and the Sydney CBD, and the excavation of Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

Starting at The Bays, tunnel boring machines will cross the harbour near the Anzac Bridge, before heading to the new Pyrmont station and then under Darling Harbour before reaching Hunter Street in the heart of the CBD.

This is the final piece in the puzzle to deliver the city-shaping Sydney Metro West project.


Once completed, Sydney Metro West will double rail capacity between greater Paramatta and the Sydney CBD, with travel times of around 20 minutes between the two centres.


About the Role:


As a Civil Superintendent you will plan and deliver all relevant scopes of construction work across a specific geographical area or functional discipline to ensure effective delivery of planned schedules within the planned time and budget.

Provide effective leadership and sustainable working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to contribute to site safety, quality and environment controls and risk management.


Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Oversee the onsite delivery of defined scopes of work on schedule with all stakeholder expectations met.
  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder management through positive, proactive, and professional communication to keep key personnel informed.
  • Ensure compliance in commercial and financial management including meeting budgets and identifying cost saving measures.
  • Provide leadership in risk management, identify, and mitigate risks prior to works commencing, communicate with and engage relevant stakeholders to control risk and build a risk management culture.
  • Utilise project planning skills to plan work, monitor implementation and effectiveness to achieve outcomes for quarterly goals.
  • Review progress against plans, contractual arrangements, and delivery milestones to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates and take remedial action as required.
