About the team:


The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA) is leading the responsible management and safe storage and disposal of Australia's radioactive waste.

A key element of ARWA's program is the delivery of disposal pathways for Australia's radioactive waste which will provide purpose-built, highly engineered solutions to manage radioactive waste from sources such as nuclear medicine production.

Nuclear Literacy
Radioactive waste exists in many locations around the country, including hospitals, research facilities and universities.

While these locations maintain safety measures, they were not specifically designed for long-term waste management, making their continued use unsustainable.

The construction and operation of dedicated waste disposal facilities is needed to safeguard the future of Australia's nuclear medicine industry and nuclear research capabilities.

ARWA's culture of safety and security is international best practice and is complemented by our work to increase nuclear literacy in Australia through education and awareness.


The opportunity:

The Governance Officer is responsible for strengthening ARWA's governance processes and leads integrated compliance across the agency.

The role contributes to and supports the delivery of agency objectives by responding to and actioning corporate governance matters, maintaining corporate reporting functionalities and legislative compliance obligations.

The role will support teams to achieve complex procedural, operational, administrative, and business outcomes.

The Governance Officer will provide detailed administration, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.


Reporting to the Assistant Manager Strategic Governance and International Relations, the Governance Officer is accountable for the delivery of high quality, professional and efficient document development and review, and development and implementation of governance improvement projects and corporate compliance reporting across the Agency.

The Governance Officer works identify, manage, monitor, and control risks that impact on key areas including operational, strategic, and corporate risk.

  • Knowledge of Commonwealth Government obligations and frameworks.
  • Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Law, Communications, or a similar field and/or equivalent experience.
