Staff Specialist in Respiratory Medicine (General Respiratory & Cystic Fibrosis)

_ We are seeking an experienced General and Cystic Fibrosis Physician to provide a high quality services to the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at John Hunter Hospital_

About us:

John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6 tertiary referral hospital and has approx. 650 inpatient beds and is the only cystic fibrosis centre outside of Sydney caring for 150 patients.

The Centre provides comprehensive clinical care with a multi-disciplinary team focus as an inpatient or outpatient.

It also provides leadership for adult cystic fibrosis care throughout the Hunter New England Local Health District and Northern NSW, through a combination of outreach and telehealth clinics.

The sleep unit provides services to all of the HNE health area. It has 6 beds in the sleep unit and also does home sleep studies. In total approx. 1500 sleep studies annually.


The position will initially be a temporary fixed term role for 12 months with the possibility of conversion to a permanent role for the right Physician.


  • A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians,
  • Will have demonstrated recent and comprehensive experience in General Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis Medicine.
  • The ability and/or willingness to be trained in one or more of the following:
  • EBUS
  • Non Invasive Ventilation
  • Severe Asthma
  • Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Will have a professional attitude and flexibility, with a preparedness and ability to participate in after hours overtime and on call rosters
  • Be experienced in and commitment to best practice, quality improvement and clinical governance
  • Have the demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Have demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching and continuing medical education
