The role of Work Health Safety and Assurance Officer is a fixed term maternity leave position ideally commencing in May and running through to February 2024.

In this role you will be a key driver for meaningful changes planned for our safety systems, processes, and education of our people.

You will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and training for projects centred around Work Health Safety (WHS) policy, injury management, Return-to-Work (RTW) and Risk Management.


As our Work Health Safety and Assurance Officer your purpose will be to:

  • Ensure the Institute's WHS and Injury Management Policies follow relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide interpretation and counsel to leadership and the Institute's WHS committee regarding WHS policies, programs, and practices.
  • Oversee the Institute's WHS consultation processes including Emergency Control and Planning and the Institute's WHS Committee.
  • Provide regular reports to the Executive Team on WHS issues occurring within the Institute and contributing to the preparation of Board reports and Dashboard.
  • Contribute to the development of the Institute's WHS strategy and drive a strong focus on the wet laboratories, event management and volunteer workforce of our organisation.
  • Undertake other activities as directed to support the Institute's vision and purpose.

To succeed you will have

  • An understanding of WHS, policies, procedures and managing systems.
  • Good understanding & experience in injury management and ReturntoWork practices, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and knowledge of Workers Compensation and Workplace Injury Management regulations across all States.
  • Welldeveloped written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Welldeveloped analytical and report writing skills
