The purpose of the Manager, Electrical Services & Road Lighting is to provide specialist technical advice on Electrical Services and Road Lighting technology and services for roadside infrastructure for safe and effective operation of our road network.


Some of your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Provide professional advice, liaise and develop partnerships with internal stakeholders and external organisations and industry to provide innovative solutions for roadside infrastructure. Manage the evaluation of new electrical technologies and services and facilitate changes in emerging technology practices. Monitor electrical technologies and services technology issues, practices, technologies and developments, and implement and maintain best practice. Ensure appropriate technical governance frameworks are maintained and adhered to monitor compliance with policy, legislation, regulations, standards and procedures. Prepare and deliver submissions and reports relating to technical issues and identify appropriate mitigation strategies to overcome roadside infrastructurechallenges. Contribute to career development and training of the electrical engineering discipline within the Department. Participate in national developments and forums in electrical technologies and services, including topics such as electrical safety and wiring standards.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in road-based electrical engineering technology and practice. Providing technically authoritative leadership regarding emerging technologies, including emerging electrical products and services as well as environmentally sustainable electrical systems solutions. Extensive experience of program and project management integration to deliver innovative solutions. Sets high goals for personal and team accomplishment; uses measurement methods to monitor progress toward goals and works to meet or exceed goals. Identifies challenges and positively influences delivery strategies and processes to ensure program and project delivery. Creates an environment that inspires people to generate novel solutions with measurable value for customers. Uses appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to build, motivate, and guide a cohesive team to complete team goals.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions:

  • A fouryear Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree or equivalent which is assessed and accepted by Engineers Australia. Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) (Electrical) is mandatory for appointment to the position. Desirable
  • Postgraduate studies or qualifications in the area of electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent. Current holder of a C class driver's licence. Intrastate and interstate travel may be required. Criminal history screening will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
