The Department of Education is seeking an expert educational psychologist with exceptional and proven system-level leadership skills to undertake the important role of Chief Psychologist. In this role you will play an integral part in leading, developing and implementing system-wide approaches, systems and services for student mental health and wellbeing.

About the Branch

The Statewide Services Division encompasses both school and system-facing service delivery models. While the Division primarily exists to support schools, it also has an important system facing role supporting strategy and policy development. The Division provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. It is a central component of the system's overall school improvement architecture.

The Office of the Chief Psychologist, led by the Chief Psychologist is a key part of the Statewide Services Division.

About the Role

The Chief Psychologist leads the strategic delivery of school psychology services and support to public schools across Western Australia. The role is pivotal in supporting schools to address the wellbeing, mental health and learning support needs of their students.

As Chief Psychologist, you will be required to set professional standards for school psychology services for the Department, in consultation with lead school psychologists and other stakeholders, while providing professional leadership to all school psychologists working in the Department.

In this role you will manage inter-agency and education sector relationships while representing the Department to peak professional bodies on matters relating to psychological services and professional standards. This includes leadership of key State and Commonwealth projects and strategies that are high risk.

You will be required to ensure systems and support respond to complex and challenging school and community needs, arising from socially complex factors including family dysfunction, mental health, trauma, and drug and alcohol issues.

The Chief Psychologist works with leaders across the Department while managing the administrative and business functions of the Office of the Chief Psychologist.

This position is an important member of the Statewide Services Division leadership team, being the division responsible for central portfolios that deliver support services to students and schools to improve educational outcomes for all students. This includes closely collaborating with regions to ensure there is a state-wide integration of support to schools and students delivered through regional networks, providing policy advice, allocating resources, and monitoring programs and services to ensure high standards.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
