  • Clerk Grade 7/8 Salary ($101,947
  • $112,849 pa), plus employer's contribution to superannuation, annual leave loading & annualised shift work allowance (up to $28,493 pa)

Your role


Supervise the State-wide After-Hours operation of the Bail and Accommodation Support Service (BASS) and of the Bail Coordinators in the provision of a range of bail intervention options for young people across the state, in order to minimise the number of young people entering custody/reduce the numbers in custody.


What you'll do


You will work as part of a small and dedicated team based on site in the Administration Block of Cobham Youth Justice Centre, where you will lead the Unit in an afterhours capacity (4pm-3am) to provide a vital role in assessing and diverting suitable young people from custody where their bail conditions require accommodation or other case support services.


You will liaise with Youth Justice community and custody staff, NSW Police, the Helpline and other government services, alongside the non-government sector and young people and their families to increase the opportunity for young people the meet bail conditions with appropriate supports.

Responsibilities & tasks will include

  • Supervise, guide, direct and support a number of Bail Coordinators working on the Bail and Accommodation Support Service to ensure all work conducted adheres to policy and procedures.
  • Supervise the coordination and provision of a range of bail intervention options for clients across the state through the effective operation of the Bail and Accommodation Support Service.
  • Liaise with Agency Staff, Police, Family and Community Services, the nongovernment sector, families and community networks to ensure adherence with agreed operating principles of the Bail and Accommodation Support Service, ensuring that communication is always at a high level and that conflict is resolved effectively.
  • Maintain a liaison role with community organisations providing a range of bail accommodation and support options for youth offenders.
  • Compile weekly reports, maintain statistical databases and provide advice in relation to numbers in custody and other BASS reporting requirements.
  • Act in accordance with all relevant legislation and agency policies.

  • Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel in metropolitan Sydney
  • These positions work a 7 day per week rotating roster of permanent night shift, including weekends and public holidays. Incumbents will be compensated for working shift work with an annualised allowance
In addition to meeting the essential requirement the successful applicant will also possess the below skills and attributes.

  • Capacity to take the initiative and work independently
  • Management skills to develop your staff
  • Communication skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders for best outcomes for young people.
  • Understanding of the youth criminal justice system process
