Job Details:

Job Summary: This role involves acting as a technical consultant or project leader responsible for designing and building software components on complex assignments. As a team integrator, the Principal Software Engineer offers technical guidance and leadership to other engineering team members. This position typically involves working with limited supervision, making significant decision independently. Individuals in this role work across the full software development lifecycle.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate software development activities, ensuring adherence to Cubic's processes and documentation standards
  • Conduct sprint planning, stand-ups, design reviews, and retrospectives when acting as Scrum Master, focusing on continuous improvement
  • Identify and remove obstacles in software development through positive interactions with test teams and managers
  • Facilitate the maintenance of design governance, leading formal design reviews when necessary
  • Collaborate with project management to complete projects and eliminate technical debt within the team
  • Estimate tasks for cost models and project schedules
  • Develop and maintain software components, unit tests, and scripts using provided development tools
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of software systems
  • Participate in requirements definition, design, implementation, and operational aspects
  • Represent Cubic in proposal preparation, design reviews, and test/implementation plan reviews

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or related field

Desirable:

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

Essential:

  • 8 years of development experience
  • Extensive C++ experience
  • Demonstrated leadership in software design and data models
  • Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems knowledge
  • Problem-solving skills in software development
  • Experience in application design and data models
  • Estimation abilities and meeting deadlines
  • Understanding of industry standards for documentation, testing, and change control

Desirable:

  • Experience with transport ticketing or tolling systems
  • Knowledge of financial transaction clearinghouse processes
  • Experience in analyzing complex software defects
