The Opportunity:

  • The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a PSL 4 Public Programs Coordinator within Parliamentary Engagement Branch to support the successful delivery of public programs and events to enhance Parliament's status as an iconic building and location of national significance.
  • The Cultural Strategy and Experience team is part of the Parliamentary Engagement Branch which develops and delivers engaging experiences for parliamentarians, building occupants, visitors, and schools. By forging strong, enduring industry partnerships and respectful internal collaborations, we support the efficient and effective operation of Parliament House to ensure that the public can experience the heart of Australian democracy. The Public Programs Coordinator will support the administration, development, and delivery of Public Programs delivered by the Cultural Strategy and Experience section.

They will collaborate with stakeholders to successfully deliver programs that engage the community with Australian parliamentary democracy, the architecture of Parliament House and its collections.

The role will work with a team to deliver onsite logístical, technical and event support, and contribute to business improvement strategies, workplace practices and stakeholder relationships.

The Public Program Coordinator works to the Interpretation Services Manager.

Job Specific Requirements:

  • The Public Programs Coordinator will be required to:
  • be available to work occasional weekends and after hours in the delivery of events and programs.
- undertake light lifting duties for event set up/pack down, walk and stand on a variety of surfaces.
- obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted Security Clearance and Working with Vulnerable People registration.

  • Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 4 classification.
The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the successful delivery of Public Programs including events, workshops and specialist tours at Parliament House. This includes drafting run sheets, event set up and pack down, and hosting some events.
  • Maintain event planning and communication documentation in a timely and accurate way, including the annual planning calendar, meeting minutes and other administrative tasks.
  • As part of a commitment to continuous improvement, coordinate event surveys, basic data reporting and process evaluations including conducting research and analysis to report on results.
  • Collaborate respectfully and productively with diverse external clients and internal stakeholders including Security, Property Services, Visitor Engagement and Catering teams. Represent the Cultural Strategy and Experience section and DPS at events and meetings in a professional manner.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Parliamentary Engagement Branch by contributing new ideas, identifying opportunities, and supporting business improvement strategies to ensure quality outcomes in the delivery of the public programs.
