As a Principal Electrical Engineer, your main responsibility will be to lead the way in delivering safe and sustainable electrical designs for a project entering the execution phase. This project is geared towards sustainability, involving the transformation of an existing site into one focused on renewable fuels.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide specialized engineering services that adhere to Worley's, the client's, and relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct or support engineering design and technical verification of project deliverables within the discipline by other team members.
  • Proactively identify safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the project, taking responsibility and ensuring timely resolution when necessary.
  • Perform or oversee specialized engineering services, including:
    • assist in the production of engineering calculations, drawings, and documents;
    • ensure all deliverables are reviewed following Worley's procedures; conduct site visits as needed;
    • contribute to Safety in Design risk assessments;
    • participate in project reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, and safety design workshops; and manage and supervise engineering tasks in collaboration with the head office and Workshare teams.
  • Prepare engineering estimates for the electrical discipline in response to requests for quotation or change notices: define engineering requirements, methodologies, scopes, assumptions, and resource needs.
  • Regularly communicate with project stakeholders, including the Discipline Team Lead, Workshare team, Client, and Project Engineer/Manager, regarding design progress, budget, technical aspects, quality, and resource planning.
  • Establish and manage relationships with installation contractors, subcontractors, vendors, site teams, and clients.
  • If required to manage work fronts:
    • Oversee the sequence of engineering tasks to ensure project schedules are met;
    • Act as the primary contact for discipline-related engineering matters, ensuring the timely delivery of design deliverables within budget;
    • Ensure technical integrity of deliverables through design review activities; provide technical guidance, control, and supervision for engineering and design processes
    • Maintain task lists for the project, coordinate design activities with other disciplines, manage quality within the discipline, and oversee design consistency
    • Coordinate change control processes and technical inquiries within the discipline
    • Monitor and report progress on deliverables, resolve technical issues, maintain files, and follow established processes

Your qualifications

  • Hold an accredited Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline in Australia and possess extensive experience working as a professional engineer in the oil and gas refinery industry or a related field.
  • Demonstrate strong technical skills as a Principal Electrical Engineer on detailed design projects and the ability to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously.
  • Have experience across all project engineering phases, from conceptual studies to detailed design and execution.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in areas such as brownfield interfaces, high and low voltage systems, power distribution, and electrical calculations for design and equipment sizing.
  • Possess certifications such as Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), postgraduate qualifications, knowledge in hazardous areas, and Functional Safety TUV Certification.
