  • Make a difference to young Australians through supporting their education
  • Casual position
  • Based in Adelaide, SA

The Smith Family is a children's education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are currently seeking casual facilitators to work across our participating schools in Adelaide SA where our 'Learning for Life' students are enrolled. You facilitate to the whole class, so everyone gets the benefit of these extra-curriculum programs. Programs run intermittently, as required by the participating schools. It would suit a facilitator with at least two available days per week. Scheduling can fit around your other part time/casual work/study commitments.

The successful candidates may consider delivering one or more of the following programs, depending on their skills and experience and also the local participating schools' needs:

  • Facilitating engaging sessions to high school students for 1.5 hrs a week for 5 weeks, within a term, about budgets, savings, loans and other money topics (Keep the Change)
  • One hour a week for 6 weeks to assist Year 6 students transition to secondary school (Passport to Success)
  • Increasing Years 4-6 and/or junior secondary students' knowledge of the world of work, and how these relate to their own interests and strengths in 5-7 one-hour sessions (Future Seekers)
  • and other high school programs including Entrepreneurship and Career Activities.

It takes a special kind of person to work as a casual facilitator in our programs. The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated qualifications and/or experience in the delivery of training programs or classroom-based learning.
  • A current drivers' license, access to a reliable and insured vehicle and a willingness to travel up to one hour each way to deliver the program sessions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with people from various backgrounds.
  • Highly developed organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage your time effectively.
  • Commitment to The Smith Family's Facilitator Quality Standards, informed by existing frameworks including the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

If you are passionate about what you do and committed to making a difference, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact us today by uploading your resume and cover letter here (employment link) or emailing Susan Thompson, Programs Facilitator Manager via and remember to add in your location – suburb & State.

Closing date: Friday 21 June 2024 unless a successful candidate is identified sooner, so apply asap.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must be prepared to undertake a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check. We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to principles of cultural diversity. Applications from people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are encouraged.
