About the role

As the Urban Forest Tree Planner, you will Manage the delivery of Councils tree planting and establishment program to provide new trees to the community and help Council achieve its targets as set out in the Glen Eira Urban Forest Strategy as well as the development and implementation of capital works programs to increase tree canopy across the municipality.

Day to day duties include but not limited to:

• Provide updates on the progress of Capitol Works Programs.
• Respond to customer enquiries related to tree planting and establishment.
• Provide technical advice for the development of contemporary green infrastructure, design standards and guidelines for streetscape works.
• Work across both the urban forest and open space maintenance team to deliver appropriate specie selection, planting and maintenance of park trees.
• Undertake surveys and audits to ensure resilient and appropriate tree species selection across the municipality.
• Undertake community consultation with relation to tree planting projects and species selection.
• Conduct audits in accordance with programmed works schedule and ensure required standards are adhered to.
• Update and maintain databases and prepare reports as required, including development and delivery of documented arboricultural maintenance plans and programs.
• Support the Coordinator Urban Forest in the supervision and monitoring contractor's progress in meeting work schedules, objectives and quality standards.
• Develop, implement and promote effective communication channels between staff, managers, other departments in relation to Councils Urban forest.

About you

• You will have a love of trees and urban horticulture.
• Experience in managing capitol works programs.
• Thorough understanding of the principals relating to contemporary Urban Forest practices.
• Experience in providing direction, leadership and training to team members.
• Welldeveloped verbal communication skills to enable clear communication with external customers and team members.
• Excellent understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and safe work practices and procedures, particularly relating to arboriculture.
• Demonstrated experience working independently to deliver high quality Urban Forest outcomes.
• The following is also required:_
• Diploma Arboriculture (AQF Level 5) required
• A sound knowledge of tree species and experience in selecting and establishing trees in the urban environment.
• Relevant Local Government experience in Urban Forest or Arboriculture management is desirable.
• Experience in the delivery of Urban Forest outcomes & tree planting and establishment programs.
• Strong contract management skills.
