Your role


As the Legal Assistant, you will be responsible in providing administrative and secretarial services to internal and external clients to support the delivery of quality services for the Department of Communities and Justice, Legal, within the Inquests, Inquiries and Representation team.


The role relates to tenancy and housing matters, with an emphasis on matters in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal but may also include matters in the NSW Supreme Court, Australian Human Rights Commission, Anti-Discrimination NSW and prosecutions under the _Housing Act 2001_ and the _Crimes Act 1900_.


What you'll do

  • Resilience and ability to work with competing priorities to agreed standards, budgets, and timeframes as well as maintaining sensitivity, discretion and a professional manner in handling difficult and complex enquiries and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Act as a point of contact for enquiries from staff and clients and provide a timely and effective information and referral service.
  • Undertake a range of administrative and secretarial support services relating to the business, including noncomplex client matters, word processing, data entry, preparing correspondence, taking minutes, maintaining electronic and file records and support with meetings and events.
  • Undertake as directed routine financial activities in accordance with relevant practices and standards.
  • Assist with projects and research.

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 201
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
