Your new companyClient is a well-established 'geostructural' design and construction business based in Brisbane.

They are privately owned and a real local success story based on engaging high quality design staff to supplement their high quality site and project management staff.


They are 'genuine' engineers and usually having to face a unique set of geotechnical circumstances and come up with a one time only solution to meet clients need and budget.


Originally sought after as the go to company for complex issues and sites, they are now the 'go to' on the simpler ones too as their ability to think outside the square and come up with a quality bespoke engineering solution have shown to be more cost effective and efficient even on 'cookie cutter' sites.

Your new roleThe new role is Senior Structural Design Engineer as direct report to the Engineering Manager and MD.

The role is basically to engage with asset owners, property developers and other consultants to understand issues they face and then to come up with a properly engineered solution that not only exceeds their expectations but also integrates successfully with the other project consultants.


The ability to find a unique solution and 'sell' that solution to the client is key to the success of this role and as such needs someone who has a genuine and deep understanding of the fundamentals of design, plus the high-quality communication skills to be able to explain, encourage and negotiate an understanding to ensure the design solution is accepted.

What you'll need to succeedCandidates would need 10 plus years of experience as a structural engineer, with significant experience in design of reinforced concrete / structural steel structures for seismic conditions to be considered.

Ideally candidates would also be registered with the appropriate local bodies (RPEQ / CPEng).

In order to thrive in the role. Candidates would need to be passionate engineers and have a real desire to solve complicated problems.

This will involve a natural positivity and belief, plus a degree of flexibility in thinking and persistence to stick with the problem until they have found a solution.

Candidates would need a solid work ethic to continue until they have found the solution.

Communication skills are a key function of the role.

The design engineer needs to properly understand the brief with the client and then go back explain the benefits of a unique solution that they may not have seen before but is the most commercially viable solution for their problem.

Candidate needs to be able to work with with the project delivery team too.

This company is design and construct, so the site-based team needs to be able to work with this person to properly understand and translate the design requirements on site.
