A little bit about us
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (the department) is responsible for the design and implementation of the Australian Government's infrastructure, transport and regional development policies and programs, and is the lead agency for communications and the arts. We are at the forefront of the Australian Government's efforts to connect our communities, secure the nation's economic future, improve living standards, provide access to high quality communication services and ensure all Australians can enjoy diverse artistic and cultural experiences.
The department's objectives – Connecting Australians , Enriching Communities , and Empowering Regions – represents the work we focus on daily to improve the lives and opportunities of Australians and all who live throughout our country. The department achieves these objectives by:
Building stronger communities through major infrastructure planning, investment advice and delivery, and strategic development of policies and programs. Supporting a thriving aviation industry, connecting even our most remote residents with the rest of the country and the world. Making sure that all transport users benefit from a safe and secure transport system. Managing some of Australia's most significant infrastructure projects which affect the wider community, including regulating airports, the development of the Western Sydney Airport, and the delivery of Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail. Developing regional Australia by: delivering programs to assist regional communities respond to the impacts of COVID-19 and natural disasters such as drought, floods and bushfire, and undertaking data and policy analysis to deliver improvements to the liveability, productivity and sustainability of Australian cities and regions, including through initiatives such as City and Regional Deals and regional partnerships. Managing local government policy and programs, including engaging with local governments on nationally significant issues and managing the Local Government Financial Assistance Grant program. Ongoing delivery of critical core services to the Indian Ocean Territories of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island, the Jervis Bay Territory, the Ashmore and Cartier Islands, and the Coral Sea Islands. Managing the Government's interests in the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. Enabling all Australians to connect to effective communications services and technologies, including through the rollout of the National Broadband Network and the Mobile Black Spot Program. Supporting inclusiveness and growth in Australia's creative sector, and protecting and promoting Australian content and culture.Who are we looking for?
