In Australia, our Consulting and Strategic and Advisory (CSA) team provide expertise in railway operations and maintenance, rail alignment and permanent way, signalling and control systems, telecommunications and rail vehicles.

We deliver seamless, personalised passenger experiences, and optimise operations by reducing risks through decades of experience in engineering excellence. We're helping to empower our customers to change the face of rail travel.

Role Summary


Reporting to the Head of Systems, the Systems Team Lead - Victoria will be accountable for leading and managing a team of professional staff and associates to deliver high quality Systems solutions to clients, primarily in the rail industry.

Systems solutions might include Systems Integration, Systems Engineering, Cyber Security, Safety Assurance and/or Fire Life Safety solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of relevant consultancy assignments undertaken by team members including allocation, estimating, tendering, planning, execution and close out.
  • Prepare responses to 'Requests for Tender' and other bidding opportunities, involving team members as appropriate.
  • Prepare unsolicited offers and proposals for the provision of services in line with business plan objectives as directed by the Head of Systems.
  • Develop innovative ideas which deliver service and product growth, client satisfaction improvement or operational performance improvement.
  • Develop business plans in support of the identified ideas and champion their development and implementation.
  • Establishing a winwork culture within the team, with opportunity pipeline recorded and managed within CRM.
  • Recruitment and development of the systems team.
  • Encourage an inclusive environment within the systems team.
  • Undertake staff appraisals and management reviews.
  • Develop training and competency management plans for team members in line with individual goals and business strategy.
  • Provide mentorship to team members where appropriate.

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, Chartered Engineer (or a clear plan to achieve status); or more than 10 years related rail experience and/or consultancy; or proven track record in team management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Systems assignment opportunities will integrate with SNC-Lavalin's broad spectrum of railway and other engineering disciplines, and requires a flexible, selfmotivated, confident and professional approach.
  • A good understanding of railway engineering and operations.
  • Good understanding of a wide range of Systems Engineering Applications and relevant qualifications.
  • Strong engineering and management capability.
  • Able to establish and maintain a strong network of clients and collaborators.
  • Capable of effectively representing the SNC-Lavalin brand.
  • Proficient in managing and developing a professional team.
  • Excellent time management skills.
