Ambulatory Cell Therapies (ACT) is an integral clinical service of the Department of Clinical Haematology. In addition, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) partners will work closely with Clinical Haematology and the leads of ACT to support strategic objectives in cellular therapy. The implementation and integration of ACT will support better coordination of complex patient care that is time sensitive, with improved clinical governance and delivery. The service aims to deliver care and management of patients and donors from collection or treatment of blood components, through to the infusion of cellular products.

The NUM of the Ambulatory Cell Therapies (ACT) unit which includes Apheresis, Cryopreservation and the Infusion Centre (Level one - opening in November 2023) provides key accountability, leadership and governance in collaboration with the medical lead of ACT and Manager (senior scientist) of Cryopreservation Unit in order to provide excellence in patient care.

The NUM of ACT will work closely with the leads of ACT to coordinate and manage the collection, cryopreservation and storage of cellular products from patients and donors; the infusion of cellular products and the associated acute clinical care needs of the patients pre and post infusion of cellular products up to Day 30 when receiving care via the ACT unit.

  • Registered Nurse Division 1
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in haematology, apheresis, acute care nursing, cancer nursing, and ambulatory care patient services
  • An excellent understanding of Cryopreservation operations and associated processes
  • Proven resource management capability
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead senior staff and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Demonstrated positive outcomes in managing clinical and operational risk
  • Ability to manage different teams across different services and geographical areas
  • Experience and expertise with the use of quality management systems and incident reporting systems (such as Riskman and Q-Pulse)
  • Experience in document preparation, report writing, risk mitigation
  • Knowledge and experience of various accreditations such as FACT, TGA, NATA and ACHS.
  • Master's degree in nursing or relevant field, or working towards (haematology, advanced clinical practice, management or equivalent)
  • Evidence of knowledge of clinical trial or clinical trial management
  • Evidence of patient experience methodology and patient centred innovation
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional activities and organisations including membership of the Cancer Nursing Society of Australia / Haematology specialist nursing groups
  • Demonstrated quality improvement initiatives/experience and overseeing various accreditations with positive outcomes.
