  • Salary of $126,084 to $138,953 + superannuation, depending on experience


The NSW Environmental Protection Authority, Aboriginal Initiatives team seeks to appoint a Principal Policy Officer to lead meaningful engagement with Aboriginal communities for the delivery of priority projects and influence of policy, programs and practice that will improve the future protection of the environment and human health and drive NSW to a more sustainable future.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity and cultural connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act

About You
You will be knowledgeable and have lived experience with strong connections and identity to your culture.

You will be able to provide leadership to improve inclusion of Aboriginal perspectives into regulatory policy and practice of the EPA.

Proven experience in leading people to undertake end-to-end project management, effective engagement with Aboriginal communities and the ability to network across various areas of government.

You have passion for the environment and your community.

You do not need to be an expert in environmental matters and regulation but will be curious to learn more about what the NSW EPA does to protect human health and the environment.

You are a team player always ready to roll their sleeves up and jump in when a job needs to be done, no matter how big or small.

This role will see you lead a team to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate projects and provide advice and guidance to influence policies, programs and practice.


Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience in planning, implementing and managing complex projects to achieve priority objectives
  • Demonstrated capability in influencing stakeholders to take action and deliver agreed outcomes
  • Applicants must be of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997.
