Applications are sought for an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Genomics Registrar, based at our laboratory in Heidelberg, Victoria.


About Us


Genomic Diagnostics is the nationally co-ordinated testing service for the pathology division of Healius, operating a comprehensive accredited genomic testing facility in Melbourne.

Our primary focus is to provide an efficient genomic pathology service across Australia to our patients and practitioners.

The testing service spans both constitutional and somatic testing, providing genetic and genomic information which assists in diagnosis and clinical decision-making.


Genomic Diagnostics is an accredited registrar training site and offers up to 3 years of full-time training towards Fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).


About the Role


You will be joining a team of Genetic Pathologists, Clinical Scientists and Laboratory Scientists and Technicians who are focused on providing a quality national genomic testing service.


Commensurate with your level of experience, you will be involved in developing knowledge and understanding of the principles of medical genomics, the performance, QC and QA of laboratory genomic tests, the interpretation and reporting of test results, validation and implementation of new testing methodologies, and consultation with referring clinicians.

Supervision will be provided by highly experienced Genetic Pathologists and Clinical Genomics Scientists.


Training in Medical Genomics will be supported by structured and informal teaching sessions onsite, and opportunities to attend external meetings and training activities.

An optional accredited rotation to our cytogenetics laboratory in Murarrie, Qld is also available.

About you

  • Have an MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Have completed 2 year's clinical experience post primary medical degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated interest in pathology and medical genomics, and commitment to undertake training leading to Fellowship with the RCPA in Genetic Pathology
  • Demonstrated strong clinical and analytical problemsolving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High personal motivation, ability to adapt and work in a fastpaced changing environment
