About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity with Blacktown Arts on a temporary, full-time basis for up to 12 months.

This role leads a diverse, contemporary visual arts program of creative and cultural experiences at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre and for Blacktown City, that provides opportunities for local artist development, community engagement and audience development in collaboration with the programming team.

The role leads, manages, reports on and acquits multi-art form projects in conjunction with the Coordinator Programming.

This role has been mirrored to allow the incumbent Curator and Collection Manager to focus their attention solely on the Blacktown City Art Collection.

As such, the incoming Curator and Collection Manager will focus solely on the curatorial elements of the role.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

• Tertiary qualifications appropriate to the role
• Suitable curatorial experience in contemporary art
• Previous experience in art collection management
• Demonstrated capacity to work productively with artists and communities from a range of cultural backgrounds within a local government framework
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets
• Demonstrated negotiation, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
• Demonstrated computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office suite
• Proven capacity to work in a highpressure team environment with competing demands
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service
• Current class C driver's licence.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of contemporary collection management practices
• Knowledge of the visual arts sector in Western Sydney.

Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.

• Entry level for this position starts at $1,729.05 per week
• 35hour working week
• Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
