About the Role

We are looking for experienced and versatile Project Directors interested in regional opportunities. As a Project Director, your role will involve overseeing the successful execution of significant and intricate Rail projects with various work streams. Your responsibilities will include ensuring projects align with design specifications, meet deadlines, stay within budget constraints, and achieve goals related to commercial aspects, HR, safety, quality, environment, and community engagement. Your objective will be to meet or surpass project financial targets by identifying and resolving issues and seizing potential opportunities. Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the overall project delivery is on schedule or ahead, meeting all client expectations
  • Allocate resources efficiently to complete tasks within budget, timeframe, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Supervise and direct workflow, establishing daily, weekly, and long-term project objectives
  • Supervise the specialized functions of design, engineering, procurement, and construction. Manage the coordination of various disciplines and multiple work streams
  • Collaborate with the construction team to adjust designs and methodologies as needed
  • Regularly review progress against plans, contracts, and delivery milestones to ensure alignment with schedules, quality standards, and cost estimates. Take appropriate corrective actions when necessary
  • Ensure effective management of contract, commercial, and financial risks. Accurately forecast costs and revenue, implement corrective actions within the company's framework, and maximize project profitability
  • Support the Precontracts Manager in the bidding and tendering processes for new projects
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental practices
  • Show leadership in risk management, compliance, and audits. Ensure compliance with relevant Building Codes and other legal obligations
  • Engage stakeholders actively and cultivate positive relationships with the client, subcontractors, community, and external parties
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic business relationships with key clients and industry partners to generate new opportunities and projects
  • Monitor staff and labor resources to ensure the project team is capable of achieving targets. Supervise the workforce, including subcontractors
  • Foster high-performance teams, mentor team members, and actively contribute to their professional growth and development
  • Participate proactively in new business initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and overall business activities
  • Execute all tasks following John Holland's policies, procedures, reporting systems, and processes
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in project management roles
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary projects and teams
  • Familiarity with contemporary design and construction practices
  • Knowledge of contracts, legal aspects, commercial practices, industrial relations, and legislative requirements
  • Strong financial and commercial management skills, including cost control and budget adherence
  • Proficiency in people and performance management, including subcontractor performance
  • Expertise in handling complex client relationships and stakeholder management
  • Capability in safety, environmental, and quality risk assessment, both quantitatively and qualitatively
  • Ability to analyze and report on project performance, compliance, defects, and non-conformance issues
