  • Max Term Contract until June with a possibility of extension
- $68,758 ( pro-rata) plus 10.5% Superannuation

How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne


The Community Care unit of the Ageing and Inclusion team sits within the Community Wellbeing branch of the Community and City Services division.


The Community Wellbeing Branch is responsible for managing, delivering, improving and implementing change in a range of community services to ensure quality outcomes for the city.

The area is responsible for planning for and providing children's services, including child care, parenting services and family support activities, immunisation, maternal and child health services, youth services, and services to older people.

The branch works to ensure accessibility to all community members.


The Community Care unit provides support to meet the needs of older people and their carers through delivery of assessment services, Home Care Packages and a Social Support Group program.

The Program Support Worker position will be based at the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre in Carlton.

Their main duties will be to:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of enjoyable and meaningful activities for older people attending the Social Support Group.

All CoM employees will demonstrate an ability to articulate and demonstrate benefits of positive culture and values.

In addition, the position will require:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent
  • Experience in working with older adults
  • An understanding of dementia and an ability to work with people living with dementia
  • Ability to use initiative appropriately and work independently or as instructed
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe O.H.&S practices
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements in client care
  • Police check clearance
  • Working with Children check clearance
  • Current driver's licence

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Ability to speak a relevant language other than English
  • Experience in providing lifestyle and leisure activities for older adults
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in the design and implementation of activity programs for people with dementia, frail aged, people with a disability, and people from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background.
