City Plan Services is an industry leading specialist consultancy. With offices in Sydney and the Gold Coast, we provide services in the area of Building Regulations, Accessibility Advice and Heritage Services.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Company Accountant to competently manage the company's accounts.

The Position

Reporting to the Managing Director, this opportunity will appeal to a suitably qualified accounts manager who is looking to work with a well-established company. We anticipate this role will be part time (approx. 25 hours per week) and would be suitable for someone wanting flexibility to work school hours (5 days) or up to 3 full days.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out all the standard roles of an Accounts Manager, including but not limited to:

  • Manage and supervise the company's statutory and reporting accounting functions and liaise with external tax accountant;
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts;
  • Ensure company tax compliance including IAS, BAS, FBT, payroll tax & TPAR;
  • Manage the company's invoicing and recognition of revenue for works undertaken;
  • Manage company supplier accounts including accounts payable functions;
  • Manage the preparation of managed accounts for reporting to executive management team;
  • Manage ongoing reconciliations of bank statements, suppliers, debtors and balance sheet items;
  • Manage fortnightly payroll function for 30-35 employees;
  • Manage cash flow;
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies;
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions;
  • Manage general accounting and associated administration tasks; and
  • Manage and supervise accounts support staff.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, pay attention to detail and provide a professional and courteous attitude when liaising with clients to focus upon and expand established client relationships. Management & organisational skills, an ability to prioritise, implement instructions and complete tasks unsupervised and in a timely manner whilst working as part of a team is essential.

Our assessment criteria for this position will include:

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience is essential
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications – ideally will also be CPA qualified
  • Must have minimum of 12 months demonstrated experience with Xero and Workflow Max along with strong working experience using Microsoft Office Suite (in particular Excel) and other accounting software
  • Demonstrated experience in managing workloads and successfully dealing with conflicting deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising a finance team
  • Demonstrated experience in improving company process and procedure.
