Division Responsibilities
Medical Devices & Product Quality Division (MDPQD) contributes to the vision of the Health

Products Regulation Group (HPRG) 'Better health and wellbeing for all Australians through

regulatory excellence' and the wider Department 'Better health and wellbeing for all

Australians now and for future generations'. We ensure domestic and internationally

manufactured therapeutic products including medical devices, medicines and biologicals

supplied in Australia meet the highest standards for quality, safety and performance.

MDPQD undertakes a wide range of regulatory activities including assessing medical

devices, including in vitro diagnostic tests; laboratory testing and monitoring; inspecting,

auditing and certifying manufacturers against manufacturing standards to ensure the

products they manufacture meet appropriate quality, safety and performance standards;
and post market monitoring and coordination of recall actions for therapeutic goods when

issues arise. We also support Pacific Nations with medicines testing capability and

participate in a wide range of international regulatory forums.

Branch Responsibilities
The Medical Devices Branches evaluate medical devices, including in vitro diagnostic tests,

and monitors them throughout their lifecycle to ensure they continue to meet an

appropriate level of quality, safety and performance.

Section Responsibilities
The Devices Business Support Section is a dynamic and high paced area that provides

business support to two branches that manage the regulation of medical devices. Support

services include external communication, branch coordination, secretariat management,

workforce planning and implementation, medical device reforms coordination, and

responses to medical device enquiries.***
Key Responsibilities

  • Providing the smooth management of staff recruitment and accommodation across
the Medical Devices Program, including developing and managing workforce plans,

liaising with recruitment companies, preparing internal business cases, managing

end-to-end recruitment processes, supporting on-boarding of staff, and overseeing

accommodation of staff***- Undertake procurement activities in accordance with PGPA Act 2013 using SAP for

contractors and consultants as per the Request for Quote (RFQ) processes***- Drafting Business Cases for approval by the FAS (Contractors) or Dep Sec (ongoing

and non-ongoing staff) through the Finance Business Partner***- Providing assistance with permanent recruitment***- Send Requests for Quote, coordinate interviews, set up Work Orders in SAP, gain

Delegate approvals and negotiate contract rates and terms in Work Orders***- Develop and support internal and external stakeholder relationships with and

provide key point of contact for contractors and recruitment consultants***- Assist in capability building for projects conducted by the MDAB and MDSB***- Ensure effective administrative processes are undertaken in accordance with the

department's audit and security guidelines***- Assist with accommodation activities within MDAB and MDSB***- Provide HR support and advice as requested***- Managing invoice payments using SAP***
