About the role

As the Ganger Class 3, you will report to the Track Supervisor. The role is integral to the success of V/Line's Network Development Asset and Maintenance Group.

As the Ganger you will manage and review the maintenance infrastructure requirements whilst managing and promoting a good positive safe working culture leading by example to follow process and procedures.

The Ganger (Class 3) is responsible to supervise the performance and ensure the track maintenance tasks are completed to continue the functionality and high performance of the V/Line service.

  • This is a permanent night shift opportunity. Hours of work are
    • Sunday to Thursday - 10pm to 6am. (With overtime when required) and a day off every second Thursday.
  • You are entitled to an RDO every second Thursday.
  • This position oversees maintenance on VLine's central lines – Passenger Lines from CBD to Caroline Springs & Deer Park to Manor Junction including freight lines at Brooklyn, Tottenham & Sth Kensington
  • 5 weeks of annual leave with 20% leave loading.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Manage and participate in renewal or maintenance work of rail infrastructure.
  • Maintain proper maintenance of the allotted length of track.
  • Inspect and monitor track conditions.
  • Manage a team of 10 fostering inclusive working relationships both internal and external working group and contractors.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OH&S standards and regulations.

About you

The Ganger will need to be well organised, lead from the front, have a positive engaging approach as well as technical knowledge of the plant and equipment used on track to support the team/gang. It will be essential to have clear concise communication skills to be able to report up to Track Supervisor the shifts achievements and anything that has not been completed.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Certificate III in Rail Infrastructure or basic Way Maintenance course (Gangers course)
  • Safe Working Certificates including Track Force Protection Coordinator and TVO2 (Road rail vehicle operator)
  • Adhere to a safe working culture at all times
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to lead and support a team
  • Demonstrated work experience as a Ganger
  • Hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated alignment to V/Line's values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2019 and paid as an IMW (TRACK) 3.1 $51.3258

Current employees are expected to remain in their role for a minimum of 12 months before applying to new positions within V/Line.
