Manager South-West Regional Waste Management Group (SWRWMG)(Permanent, full-time - 70 hours per nine-day fortnight)

The Manager SWRWMG oversees waste management for the Group Councils of Cootamundra-Gundagai, Hilltops, Snowy Valleys and Yass Valley, primarily overseeing the transport of waste from these areas to a shared landfill facility.

As the successful applicant, you will be responsible for administration of the Group, and planning & management of Group infrastructure & services.

You will also be charged with the roll-out of education campaigns and providing technical advice to enhance efficient resource recovery across the Group Councils.

This is the perfect role for a highly qualified and skilled Waste Manager, and our ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Waste Management or Environmental Engineering backed with relevant industry experience at an enterprise level.

Tasks & responsibilities(Note - the list below is non-prescriptive and the incumbent will be expected to undertake additional duties)

Manage and co-ordinate all aspects of the Group's business and operations to ensure the provision of professional, cost effective and timely works and services which achieve desired outcomes and high-quality service provision.

Develop and manage the Group's long term strategies and operating rules.

Take responsibility for the Group's plant operation & maintenance program, ensuring coordinated regular scheduling of repairs & maintenance for efficient & effective operation of plant.

Ensure HVIS inspections and registration renewals for the Group's trailers and any other road registered assets of the Group are completed as scheduled.

Manage the Group's periodic and annual reporting to regulatory authorities and the community and assist Group Councils to comply with reporting requirements.

Manage the Group's capital works programs, including providing appropriate project management support and oversight to the Group's partners to ensure the Group receives value for money.

Coordinate technical advice on waste management on request by Group Councils.

Develop and implement community engagement and education programs on behalf of Group Councils to encourage better waste management practices in the community.

Qualifications & experience Relevant tertiary qualifications in Waste Management, Environmental Engineering or a related field (or demonstrable equivalent relevant experience, in lieu of tertiary qualifications).

Five or more years' experience in a role managing waste management programs and waste minimisation initiatives, with sound knowledge of the legislation that applies to providing waste management services.

Proven record in managing projects and services, complex grants, operational and project budgets, with a solid understanding of financial, fleet and plant management and tendering processes within Local Government.

Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including the ability to compile comprehensive reports and long term strategic, business and management plans.

Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate contentious issues between multiple parties.
Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and best practice in waste management,
Experience designing and implementing community engagement.
Current Class C Driver Licence.

Flexible work location:

Boorowa, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Harden, Tumbarumba, Tumut, Yass or Young with travel across this picturesque region (option of a full-private leaseback vehicle for travel).

Excellent remuneration negotiable to approx.
$130k p.a.

  • 11% Superannuation and generous entitlements such as a nine-day fortnight, conferred under the Local Government State Award 2023.
