Footpath Inspection Officer

The Opportunity


Our client, established in 2017, is a Melbourne-based engineering consultancy with extensive experience and specialist skills in the management of infrastructure assets.


They currently require a number of Footpath Inspection Officers to assist them in performing footpath inspections in the Maribyrnong City Council area.

This is for a period of 6-weeks commencing on 13th October 2023 and finishing 30th November 2023.

The main responsibility of the job is to visually inspect and record various types of footpath hazards and defects. This requires that you have exceptional attention to detail and are committed to doing high quality work.


The role involves walking and being on your feet for most of the day and would suit someone who likes working outdoors and is physically fit.

The project has strict deadlines and your availability for the full duration of the project is paramount.

You must have your own transport and be an Australian resident for tax purposes to qualify for this role.


This is an attractive position and people who have enjoyed success in this role previously have been able to secure ongoing employment in similar positions within local government.


Position Objective

  • To undertake routine inspections of footpath assets in relation to identifying defects, risk analysis, data collection, recording and reporting.
  • Create an environment of cooperation, trust and respect, and work as part of the team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Hazard/defect identification.

Qualifications and Experience

  • To be able to work well under pressure to meet very specific deadlines.
  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge and understanding.
  • Proficiency and skills in the use of mobile devices, personal computers, and software.
  • Confidence and expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Experience in asset inspections and asset management would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in road, footpath and other asset maintenance / construction practices is desirable.
