You will be joining a close-knit team that prides itself on professional, technical and collaborative excellence, while supporting Tonkin's' multidisciplinary approach that ensures our clients receive the best solutions. Joining our Water team, as an experienced Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists:
- In a Senior/Principal level technical role on water and wastewater projects with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and outcomes.
- Interpret project documents and client briefs, to identify the risks, complexities and interdependencies of multiple issues and to formulate strategies and action plans to address identified issues.
- Provide specialist technical inputs to a range of projects to support the delivery of water and wastewater projects across the National Water Program.
- Mechanical design solutions through contributions in, e.g. hydraulics, bulk water transfer including pump stations, pump sizing and selection, valve sizing and selection, heat exchanger design, water and wastewater treatment processes, Balance of Plant.
- Work collaboratively with engineers of other disciplines to design a wide range of infrastructure projects.
- Desire to guide and mentor junior mechanical engineering staff
- Deliver risk management and quality management functions, ensuring compliance with all current statutory requirements, engineering and contract standards.
About you:
Together with your exemplary teamwork, stakeholder management, written and verbal communication skills; to be successful in this role you will ideally possess some or all of the following:
- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering and 7+ years relevant experience
- Chartered Engineering Status (CPEng) with eligibility for RPEQ or other state based registration schemes, or a willingness to obtain.
- Strong teamwork and an ability to work with a range of engineering professionals in a team environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully build and maintain positive internal relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to develop external client relationships and key stakeholders and industry networks that may contribute to business growth.
- Significant experience in applying industry standards, e.g. SA Water standards, WSA etc.
- Significant experience in applying Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Safety in Design, HAZOP, design review processes for projects.
- Experience in Water Supply and Sewerage design, including pipelines & pump stations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a strong focus on the production of quality outputs
Additional skills that would make you a seamless fit:
- Surge modelling, interpretation and design of mitigation measures.
- Network hydraulic modelling for pressurised and gravity systems including water, recycled water and sewer systems.
- Experience in related fields such as asset management, operational analytics, live hydraulic modelling and/or optimisation
