About the Humanities Faculty


A thriving Humanities Faculty is central to our philosophical commitment that each of our students engages in a broad and liberal education.

We believe that Humanities subjects play a central role in fostering critical thinking, cultural appreciation and empathy.

At Melbourne Grammar we want them provide insight into human experiences, societies, and values, equipping students with essential skills for navigating diverse perspectives and understanding complex global issues.

Our buildings reflect the respect we have for the educational process, and the students and staff engaged in it.

The development of the new Centre for Humanities clearly demonstrates the importance of Humanities at Melbourne Grammar School.

We are a community of ideas and, under the guidance of the new Head of Humanities, this state-of-the-art building will bring those subjects to life.


It will be another landmark building for Melbourne Grammar School, providing beautiful and functional spaces in which students and teachers will be able to gather, exchange ideas, and be inspired to see the world in new ways.


This will be a building that deepens the tradition of discourse and dialogue between students and teachers that is part of the fabric of our School.


With views across the Royal Botanic Gardens to the city and beyond, it will connect us to the wider world and ultimately inspire generations of students and staff.


You will be responsible for:
developing a forward-thinking vision for Humanities across the School, offering diverse opportunities for students to engage with ideas, grow their intellect and develop a deep understanding of subject matter in and outside the classroom

championing Humanities in our broader curriculum and working with others to develop Humanities programs within the framework provided by the aims, goals and values of Melbourne Grammar School

ensuring that the learning environment of the new Centre for Humanities building provides highly functional spaces which inspire students and staff to work together towards success and achievement

leading and managing the staff within the Humanities Faculty, prioritising professional development and the use of best practice across all subjects

You will be:
a highly skilled Humanities teacher with an enviable record of outstanding VCE results

motivated to seek purpose in your work by guiding attentive, capable and respectful students who want to learn

a creative individual with demonstrable experience in successfully conceiving new ideas and approaches to learning and learning environments

a collaborative leader committed to continually developing the Humanities curriculum and the staff who shape and deliver it

VIT Registration, or the ability to gain VIT registration, is essential for this position.
