UNSW's petascale enterprise research data experience (RDE) program will establish a fit-for-researcher data storage and data management capability across the entire research data lifecycle to support UNSW's strategic priorities as a top 50 global university. Initiated in partnership with UNSW IT and PVC Research Infrastructure, the multi-year and multi-phase program includes technology selection, procurement, implementation, and operationalisation of the new research data platform(s) and the aligned streams of work covering sensitive data, policy alignment, metadata functions and reporting.

The Cyber Security Solution Architect will provide subject matter expertise and support the secure design and delivery of systems and capabilities from conceptualisation through to operations for the RDE Program (the Program). This role will develop secure practices, security architectures and roadmaps for the Program that are aligned with the University's overall business and technology strategy. The role requires broad strategic thinking and significant engagement with the senior stakeholders across the University. The position will work closely with the Lead Solution Architect, Program Architects, Cyber Security, PVC Research Infrastructure, and RDE Program stakeholders to design seamless experience across the entire research lifecycle. This includes supporting policy development and aligning requirements, ensuring futureready, secure, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions aligning with UNSW's strategy and enterprise architecture principles. The position requires a firm grasp of global security threats and knowledge of contemporary technologies and practices for strategic response. It also demands robust and pragmatic risk management expertise and approaches to design and embed security as an enabler to achieve research excellence with agility. The Cyber Security Solution Architect reports to the Program Manager (RDE), will peer with the UNSW Cyber Security team and has no direct reports.

Who you are and your skills and experience:

· A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, as well as a minimum of ten years' experience in Cyber Security, with at least five years in a security architecture role.

· Extensive experience in shaping and driving the security design and deployment of major cyber security transformation programs, including (but not limited to):

· Strategy and roadmap definition and development, with role-based access management at the forefront of this planning, as well as understanding of open standards (e.g. SAML, OAuth, SCIM) and significant experience building and implementing Trust Models

· Relevant industry certification(s), e.g. TOGAF, CISSP and / relevant industry experience are highly desired.

· Extensive experience in shaping, developing and driving the security design of large transformation/capability-building programs, especially in data storage and management, or operational technologies.

· Proven ability to apply robust and pragmatic risk management approach in architecture and design to embed security as an enabler supporting a wide range of use cases and business agility.

· Extensive experience and knowledge across a range of cloud security solutions, including security compliance in Azure and AWS, hybrid and on-premises technologies.

· Proven ability to work at varying levels of detail, from high level conceptual architecture to low level detail design,

· Strong understanding of information security, risk management, governance, business continuity management, business agility, and resiliency issues impacting large and complex organisations, desirably in higher education or research sector.

· Knowledge of relevant regulatory compliance and industry frameworks, with hands-on experience aligning them to architecture and solutions (e.g., NIST, HIPPA, CIP, ISO/IEC

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ensuring that the underlying problem is understood, and a robust approach / solution is developed.

· Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including the ability to develop effective relationships and influence key stakeholders at all levels in the organisation.

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle high demand situations with management and key stakeholders.

· Demonstrated ability to lead and influence other senior technical and business stakeholders, without these people being direct reports.

· Experience in the University / Higher Education sector desirable.

· An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
